Endoscopic septoplasty in primary and revision surgery of the nasal septum
Endoscopic septoplasty is an important technique for correcting nasal septum deviations in the modern rhinosurgeon’s repertoire. In recent years, this technique has become widely used due to its minimal invasiveness and high effectiveness. Objective. To describe the indications, technique and features of performing endoscopic septoplasty, including its application in revision surgeries. Material and methods. The article presents a brief literature review on PubMed, MEDLINE, SCOPUS databases from 1994 to 2024 analyzing the main stages in the development of endoscopic septoplasty and its possible advantages over conventional technique. Furthermore, the indications for performing endoscopic septoplasty are considered. The description of the technique for performing the surgery, as well as various surgical approaches depending on the patient’s clinical features, including those for revision surgeries, are given. Results. Endoscopic septoplasty allows to achieve significant improvement in breathing function in the majority of patients. According to the literature, the use of endoscopic technique minimizes damage to surrounding tissues, reduces the risk of complications, and promotes faster recovery of patients. In the case of revision interventions, the method requires a specific approach due to possible changes in the surgical area and scarring of tissues. Conclusion. Endoscopic septoplasty is a highly effective and safe method for nasal septum deformities correction. The use of this technique, especially in revision surgeries, requires a high level of surgical skill and thorough preparation for achievement of optimal results.
