An improved chaos control method for reliability-based design optimization
This study presents an improved chaos control (CC) algorithm based on an adaptively active set, which is further applied to reliability-based design optimization (RBDO). First, the proposed method establishes a relationship between the iterative step size and the search region of the minimum performance target point (MPTP) through gradient at MPTP. This approach enables dynamic adjustment of the iterative step size in response to changes while automatically scaling the MPTP search domain to eliminate unnecessary MPTPs. As a result, the method reduces the need for frequent tuning of control factors and improves computational efficiency in reliability analysis. Second, the advised approach is incorporated into RBDO to enhance the performance of the RBDO-based double-loop method (DLM) relating to efficiency, robustness, and accuracy. Finally, the approach is validated using benchmark examples involving RBDO problems, demonstrating clear advantages.
