Sensitivity analysis of design parameters for hypersonic vehicle propulsion systems
The presence of extensive airspace, hypersonic speeds, and long-range flight conditions introduces significant time-varying characteristics and uncertainties that influence overall vehicle performance. Focusing on the air-breathing hypersonic vehicle, this study investigates the uncertain factors affecting its propulsion performance. A theoretical framework and model of the propulsion system are first established, with a detailed examination of design parameters influencing the performance of each subsystem. To evaluate the impact of input variability on system behaviour, a variance-based semi-global sensitivity analysis method is subsequently investigated. This approach is then applied to the propulsion system of the hypersonic vehicle to determine the degree of influence exerted by each uncertain input parameter on the output response. The results provide a theoretical foundation for the design and optimization of complex systems while accounting for inherent uncertainties.
