The power optimization strategy of wind turbine using combined fuzzy feedforward and fuzzy PI control
Above rated wind speeds, transient variations in ambient wind commonly induce fluctuations in turbine power and generator speed, posing challenges to operational performance and reliability. Traditional proportional-integral (PI) controllers often fail to deliver satisfactory pitch control performance in wind power systems subjected to instantaneous and stochastic wind speed changes across a wide operating range. To address these shortcomings, this paper proposes a coordinated pitch regulation strategy that combines fuzzy feedforward compensation with fuzzy-PI feedback control. The feedforward branch uses measured wind speed to compute a compensatory pitch command, enabling swift global adjustment of blade angle prior to significant error accumulation. The fuzzy-PI feedback controller uses generator power error and its derivative to perform local fine-tuning of pitch actions, improving steady-state accuracy and transient damping. Simulations verify that the proposed control approach effectively mitigates disturbances caused by random wind fluctuations, reduces power output variability, and enhances the stability of generated power. This strategy significantly improves the system's adaptability and robustness under varying wind conditions, thereby increasing the operational reliability and overall performance of wind turbines in complex weather environments.
