Connecting students to basic needs resources boosts their overall success

INDIANAPOLIS — When students don’t know where their next meal is coming from or if they’ll have a bed to sleep in that night, it has a significant impact on their success. In fact, 3 in 5 students experience basic needs insecurity related to food and/or housing and 14% experience homelessness, according to Anne E. Lundquist, Director of The Hope Center for Student Basic Needs at Temple University, where she's also Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban Health and Population Science in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. And 79% of student respondents to The Hope Center Student Basic Needs National Survey attributed basic needs insecurity as the main factor for previously stopping out of college, she added.
