Hybrid Perovskites beyond Photovoltaics: Unlocking Multifunctional Energy and Optoelectronic Applications
Hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites have revolutionized the field of photovoltaics, with efficiencies surpassing 26% in just over a decade of research. However, their unique combination of electronic, ionic, and structural properties suggests a much broader role in next-generation technologies. In this Perspective, we argue that the future of hybrid perovskites extends well beyond solar cells, encompassing a diverse range of optoelectronic and energy-harvesting applications. We discuss emerging directions in optoelectronic applications, X-ray detectors, spintronic devices, energy storage, and catalysis. Special emphasis is placed on the opportunities and challenges in stability, interface design, and multifunctionality that must be addressed to enable practical devices. By highlighting the synergy between photovoltaics and nonphotovoltaic applications, we propose a roadmap for leveraging the unique physics of hybrid perovskites to create integrated, everyday energy solutions.
