Current oncological management options for hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers
Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) cancers encompass a group of aggressive malignancies associated with significant morbidity and high mortality. While surgical resection or liver transplantation offers a potential cure, these options are only viable for a small subset of patients. The majority of cases are diagnosed at an advanced, often incurable stage, where the disease has become locally advanced or metastatic. For these patients, treatment options are generally limited to palliative chemotherapy or best supportive care. This review aims to summarise the current standard of care and explore emerging targeted therapies in biliary tract and pancreatic cancers, illustrated through two case studies.
