Effect of caries detecting dye on tensile bond strength of composite resin restorations bonded to dentin

Abstract Aim The aim of this study was to evaluate effect of caries detecting dye on tensile bond strength of composite resin restorations bonded to dentin. Materials and methods Thirty human sound freshly extracted mandibular molars were used, the occlusal surface of the teeth was horizontally sectioned to expose the dentin. They were immersed in demineralization solution to create affected like dentin lesion. The specimen was divided equally and randomly into three groups as follows: group 1 (control group): the specimens without application of caries detection dye on demineralized dentin surfaces. Group 2: the specimens with application of caries detection dye (Cario Finder) on demineralized dentin surfaces. Group 3: the specimens with application of caries detection dye (Seek) on demineralized dentin surfaces. Caries detector dye was applied to affected like dentin lesion and rinsed. Adper single bond and Filtek Z 350XT were applied on the dentin surface according to the manufacturer’s instruction. Tensile bond strength was measured using an Instron testing machine. Results Statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Statistics, version 26). There was highly significant difference between specimens without application of the dye (control group) and specimens with application of the dye (groups 2, 3). The specimens with application of Cario Finder dye exhibited increased tensile bond strength values comparable to those with application of seek dye. Conclusion Tensile bond strength of composite resin to affected dentin decreased after using of caries detection dyes.
