Management of Ardhavbhedaka (Migraine) with Tilkalkadi Shirolepa along with Pathyadi-Kwath and Pathyadi-Kwath Alone: An Open-labeled Randomized Comparative Clinical Trial

Introduction:Ardhavbhedaka is under the entity of 11 types of Shiroroga. Ardhavbhedaka can be correlated with Migraine due to its similarity in signs and symptoms and causative factors. The aim of the study is to evaluate the additional effect of Tilkalkadi Shirolepa along with Pathyadi Kwatha in the management of Ardhavbhedaka. Methods:Thirty-two clinically diagnosed patients of Ardhavbhedaka were selected based on the signs and symptoms and randomly divided into two groups by computer-generated randomization method. Group A – Pathyadi Kwath and Group B – Tilkalkadi Lepa along with Pathyadi Kwath. Pathyadi Kwath 40 ml for 2 times a day orally and Tilkalkadi Lepa once in the evening for external application on Lalat pradesh for 1 month. The results were calculated on changes in the scores of subjective criteria such as Shirahshool (Headache) by HIT-6TM (VERSION 1.1) Index and Hrillas (Nausea) Chhardi (vomiting), Bhrama (Vertigo), photophobia (Prakash asahishnuta), and phonophobia (Prakash asahishnuta). Results:Both the drugs showed promising results on most of the parameters, but when compared Group B: Tilkalkadi Lepa along with Pathyadi Kwath showed better efficacy than Group A: Pathyadi Kwath. Conclusion:Both the selected preparations were found very effective in the treatment of Ardhavbhedaka, but the most efficacy was seen in Group B, which was given Tilkalkadi Lepa along with Pathyadi Kwath, which indicates that Tilkalkadi Lepa has an additional effect on Ardhavbhedaka.
