Understanding Kshara taila uttarabasti in Tubal Blockage: A Case Report

Introduction:Infertility can be defined as an inability to conceive within one or more years of regular unprotected coitus. Tubal or uterine factors can account for 22% of cases of infertility. Ayurveda has not mentioned infertility due to tubal blockage as an independent entity. Srotoavarodha caused by vata and kapha are the main causative factors for tubal blockage. Uttarabasti with lekhana drugs along with shamana therapy can be beneficial in the treatment of tubal block. Main Clinical Finding:A 25-year-old female, who was unable to conceive attended the outpatient department. Diagnosis:She was diagnosed with a bilateral cornual tubal block in hysterosalpingography. Interventions:She was administered intrauterine uttarabasti with Ksharataila for three consecutive cycles along with oral administration of Trivrit Lehya 3 g twice daily with lukewarm water, Giloy churna (Tinospora cordifolia) 2 g twice daily, Phalaghrita 5 mL twice daily with lukewarm milk, and Bala churna (Sida cordifolia), Ashwagandha churna (Withania somnifera), Yashtimadhu churna (Glycyrrhiza glabra), and Shatavari churna (Asparagus rasemosa) in equal amounts of 12 g in the form of Kshirapaka twice daily in two divided doses were advised for 3 months continuously. Outcome:She got conceived after 3 months of treatment and came for follow-up with a positive result of the urine pregnancy test. Conclusion:Here, in this case study, Ksharataila uttarabasti was found useful in the management of tubal blockage.
