Therapeutic Role of Haridradi Leha and Vasadi Kashaya in the Management of Bronchial Asthma
Export Introduction: The unique pathology of Tamaka Shwasa (Bronchial Asthma [BA]), i.e., obstruction of Pranavaha srotas by Kapha Dosha and Pratilom gati of Vata dosha determines the episodic nature of the illness that runs a chronic course and in the long run incriminating the Hridaya Marma which is the root of Pranavaha Srotas. Hence, Tamaka Shwasa demands distinct effective remedies. Objectives: A number of indigenous drugs have been found to be effective in the treatment of BA. In an order to explore classical medicines, we have reviewed the Ayurvedic and pharmacological role of Haridradi Leha and Vasadi Kasaya. Data Source: The searches were performed using related keywords in classical Ayurveda texts, in various databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, CrossRef, and Google Scholar and other texts of Ayurveda published in few decades. Review Methods: As Vata and Kapha are the two key pathological factors involved in the pathology of Tamaka shwasa, these formulations having Kapha-Vatahara, Ushna Veerya, Kapha Vilayana Srotoshodhaka, and Vishaghna properties will certainly play a major role in breaking the pathogenesis chain. Anti-inflammatory, expectorant, bronchodilator, antispasmodic, anti-allergic, respiratory stimulant, antibacterial, and immunomodulator properties of the constituent drugs validate the specific pharmacological role against BA. Conclusion: These formulations by inhibiting or breaking the pathogenesis process and as a defense against the damage seem to be effective in the prevention and management of BA.
