Hemoptysis in ruptured amoebic liver abscess: Investigating the causality of hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm
Hemoptysis is an uncommon but important complication of amoebic liver abscess, typically occurring, when a hypobranchial fistula forms due to abscess rupture. We report the case of a middle-aged man, who presented with fever, right upper abdominal pain, and recurrent hemoptysis. Investigations revealed a ruptured liver abscess complicated by a hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm and a right lower lobe lung abscess. He recovered after treatment with intravenous metronidazole and multiple percutaneous aspirations of the liver abscess. This case emphasizes that hemoptysis, alongside hematemesis and hemobilia, should be considered a potential vascular complication of ruptured liver abscess.
