Efficacy of inferior alveolar nerve block in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis using lignocaine with articaine and cryotherapy as an adjunct during endodontic procedures: A clinical trial

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) using lignocaine in combination with articaine and cryotherapy as an adjunct in mandibular molars. Methods: In the present study, 150 individuals with irreversible pulpitis symptoms were divided into three groups: articaine group, IANB + buccal infiltration (BI) with 4% articaine (1:100,000 adrenaline); cold group, IANB + cold application; and control group: inferior IANB with 2% lignocaine (1:80,000 adrenaline). The Numeric Rating Scale was used to gauge the degree of pain experienced during pulp extirpation and access opening. One-way ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. Results: During access opening, the articaine group showed significantly greater pain reduction than the cold and control groups. During pulp extirpation, both the articaine and cold groups had significantly lower pain levels than the control group. No significant difference was observed among the articaine and cold groups during pulp extirpation. Conclusion: An efficient supplemental method for easing pain during endodontic treatment is cryotherapy and BI with articaine.
