International Federation of Endodontic Associations education committee position statement on the management of internal root resorption: Suggested clinical protocol
Internal root resorption (IRR) results due to loss or damage of the predentin layer around the pulp chamber/root canal in association with a chronic inflammatory process. Multiple variables, such as traumatic injury, orthodontic tooth movement, excessive heat during restorative procedures, bleaching, and pulp capping procedures, have been proposed to be responsible for the development of internal root resorption. IRR may mostly be asymptomatic and is often detected as an incidental finding. On the other hand, it is sometimes challenging to treat the resorption site. This guideline presents diagnosis and treatment strategies for various types of internal root resorptions based on the location, type, and presence of perforation.
