Cerebellopontine Angle Lipoma With Extracranial Subcutaneous Component and a Bony Defect: A Case Report

A bstract Intracranial lipomas are rare congenital lesions found in the pediatric population, which are incidentally diagnosed on neuroimaging done for some other reasons. The diagnosis can be made on imaging alone and no histopathological confirmation is needed. Extracranial extension of these lipomas is extremely uncommon. Here, we report a case of the cerebellopontine angle and perimedullary cistern lipoma with extracranial extension in a 14-year-old female who presented merely with scalp swelling. Only a handful of case reports exist on intracranial lipomas associated with subcutaneous components. This case report highlights the need for a complete evaluation of patients irrespective of their age, presenting with scalp lesions, before any intervention, and the role of imaging in differentiating intracranial lipomas from other mimics and associated syndromes.
