Exploring the challenges Muslim female refugee students face in the educational context of high school in the United Kingdom
This study aimed to explore the challenges Muslim female refugee students face in high school settings in the UK and the strategies they use to address these challenges. To achieve this, a qualitative research design using semi-structured interviews was employed to collect data from 10 Muslim female high school refugee students, selected through purposive sampling. The data were then analyzed using rigorous thematic analysis. The findings revealed that these girls grapple with challenges, including social ostracism, multifaceted discrimination, targeted bullying, and curricular sensitivity issues. To address these obstacles, some potential solutions were also included in the research. The study’s findings could guide the formulation of policies and practices to facilitate the integration and empowerment of Muslim female refugee students, enabling them to achieve equitable participation in the United Kingdom’s education system.
