Rayleigh wave propagation in a double-porosity thermoelastic solid
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Rayleigh wave propagation in a double-porosity thermoelastic solid (DPTS) by means of theoretical modeling and numerical simulations. Design/methodology/approach The theoretical component will involve the analytical derivation of dispersion equation using appropriate boundary conditions (BCs) and potentials for Rayleigh wave propagation in DPTS, providing insights into the fundamental mechanisms governing wave behavior. Furthermore, it is resolved numerically to investigate the particle movements, attenuation and phase velocity of Rayleigh wave traveling through the medium. Findings Numerical evidence confirms that the local fluid flow (LFF) and BCs substantially influence the features of propagating Rayleigh wave. Furthermore, the features of propagating Rayleigh wave are extensively impacted by the pore size, temperature, fluid viscosity, frequency and depth. It becomes apparent that the particle motion throughout Rayleigh wave propagation is elliptic. Originality/value The behavior of Rayleigh wave at the surface of open and closed pores, with and without LFF are compared. The changes in propagation features of Rayleigh wave are illustrated with changes in pore size, temperature, fluid viscosity and frequency.
