Ameloblastic Fibroma: Literature Review and Case Report
Ameloblastic fibromas are responsible for 1–2% of all odontogenic tumours. If left untreated, malignant transformations may result in an ameloblastic fibrosarcoma. This case involves an 11-year-old patient referred for a suspected mandibular cyst associated with an unerupted LR4. Histology following an incisional biopsy of the lesion revealed an ameloblastic fibroma, which was subsequently surgically enucleated with extraction of the involved teeth (LRC, LRD, LR3 and LR4). Close follow-up is necessary to ensure no recurrence or rare ameloblastic fibrosarcoma sequalae. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Dental professionals should understand the importance of a thorough examination, with consideration for rare pathology, in cases of cystic presentations.
