«DUVAN’S HOUSE» IN SIMFEROPOL: VERSIONS AND DOCUMENTARY FACTS
based on an extensive set of archival materials from the State Archives of the Republic of Crimea (Simferopol), the State Archives of the Russian Federation (Moscow), and the Central State Historical Archives of St. Petersburg, most of which have been introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, the history of the architectural and urban planning monument, which has been one of the main academic buildings of the M. V. Frunze Crimean State Pedagogical Institute since 1948, has been reconstructed. The «United» building (the Duvan’s apartment building) consists of three separate late-19th-century houses located in the most respectable part of Simferopol, each representing the multifaceted lives of their wealthy owners. The houses in question belonged to Matvey Matveevich, a barrister, candidate of law, and a member of the influential Shlee family; Shabetay Veniaminovich Duvan, a barrister and one of the most successful lawyers in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, and a member of the Simferopol City Council; and Pavel Vasilyevich Popov, a real state councilor and the Yalta district leader of the nobility.
