Polydioxanone (PDO) Threads is A Novel Approach in the Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia.
Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most frequent type of hair loss, marked by progressive hair follicle miniaturization mediated by dihydrotestosterone (DHT) & genetic predisposition, affecting approximately fifty percent of White males by age fifty & as much as fifty percent of White females in their lifetime . Treatment options involve oral & topical medications, injectables like platelet-rich plasma (PRP), low-level laser management, & innovative approaches like polydioxanone (PDO) threads. This review discovers the effectiveness, mechanisms, & clinical applications of PDO threads alone or combined with other treatments for AGA treatment in both gender females and males, focusing on their role in stimulating hair regrowth through biostimulator, enhanced vascularization, & prolonged anagen phases. Conclusion: PDO threads alone or with other treatments offer promising minimally invasive options for AGA treatment, promoting hair follicle revitalization, hair regrowth & enhancing hair thickness and density, though additional investigation and studies are required to standardize protocols & optimize outcomes.
