Effect of Mineral Fertilizers on Peanut Productivity Under Drip Irrigation System

Improving soil fertility through organic fertilizers is a sustainable approach to enhancing crop productivity by supplying essential micronutrients. This study was conducted during the 2019 and 2020 growing seasons at the National Research Center Farm, Nubaria, El-Beheira Governorate, Egypt, to assess the effects of microelement fertilizers (including Hydro Follase) and drinking water purification residuals (DWPR) on peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) productivity in sandy soil under a drip irrigation system. A split-plot design within a randomized complete block arrangement was employed with four replications. The main plots were assigned to DWPR treatments (10 and 20 m³/fed) alongside a control, while the sub-plots were allocated to microelement and Hydro Follase application rates (0%, 50%, and 100%). Results indicated significant differences (p < 0.05) for all measured parameters, except shelling percentage, across DWPR levels, microelement treatments, and their interactions in both seasons. Application of 20 m³/fed DWPR significantly increased seed yield per plant (66.9–49.9 g), seed index (87.8–87.7 g), and seed yield per fed (1.34–1.33 tons) in both seasons. Similarly, applying 100% microelements enhanced seed yield per plant (72.9–56.8 g), seed index (90.3–89.3 g), and seed yield per fed (1.46–1.56 tons) compared to 0% and 50% treatments. The highest seed yield per fed (1.74–1.85 tons) was recorded with the combined application of 20 m³/fed DWPR and 100% microelements in both seasons. In conclusion, integrating 20 m³/fed DWPR with 100% microelement application is recommended for maximizing peanut productivity in sandy soil under drip irrigation conditions.

Abstract

Improving soil fertility through organic fertilizers is a sustainable approach to enhancing crop productivity by supplying essential micronutrients. This study was conducted during the 2019 and 2020 growing seasons at the National Research Center Farm, Nubaria, El-Beheira Governorate, Egypt, to assess the effects of microelement fertilizers (including Hydro Follase) and drinking water purification residuals (DWPR) on peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) productivity in sandy soil under a drip irrigation system.
