Integrated Environmental Assessment of Sustainability Land Suitability for Agricultural Development in the New Delta Region Using bio-economy Mapping Approach and RS.

Integrated Environmental Assessment (IEA) can be asserted as being a useful tool in determining development priorities within an urban context. It seeks to assess the likely environmental, social and even economic consequences from development activities in order to promote sustainability. IEA assists in defining places of specific environmental, social, or economic value to warrant careful consideration for development, planning for determination of broader impacts of development projects, and adopting mitigation measures. Further, it incorporates the stakeholder focus on the local people to ensure participation in the development process, resulting in sustainability that is acceptable to all. Over the past few years, Egypt has some challenges in its food insecurity evidenced by a food deficit of roughly of about 12 million Metric Tons per year. This is contributed by various factors such as; high population density(HPD) , low production of food and crops, and climactic changes. In response, the New Delta Project has been put forward to increase the cultivated area and provide Egypt with food security to the strategic crops. The overall purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive assessment of the environmental priorities of urban development agendas within NDP using The Mapping Bio-Economy approach. It involves the environmental factor into the development processes, handling its social and economic aspects of development for sustainability. This study underlines the necessity of environmental preservation and offers an outline of critical environmental, social and economic developmental issues along with a methodological approach for evaluation. This goal is attained by applying principles of Mapping Bio Economy, where different environmental scanning are conducted and synthesized to gauge development priorities. This approach is unique in that it encompasses and directs the examination of environmental, social and economic factors comprehensively, thereby providing the basis for detailed and accurate assessments of development projects effects in these areas.
