Vitamin D receptor (VDR ) expression in Mammary Invasive Duct Carcinoma in Association with its Molecular Subtypes and Clinic-pathological Parameters
Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer globally. it accounts for 25% of all cancer cases and about 16% of cancer-related deaths across most countries. Previous studies showed the role of Vitamin D compounds in cancer prevention and treatment of colorectal, breast, prostate, ovarian, bladder, lung, and skin carcinoma and leukemia. higher cancer incidence and mortality in patients of colorectal, breast, lung and prostate cancers could be associated with low levels of the most active metabolite of vitamin D (1α,25-dihydroxy vitamin D3) in plasma , Vitamin D exerts its function through the vitamin D receptor (VDR), Objective: This study aimed to determine the association between intra-tumor VDR expression with molecular subtypes and clinic- pathological parameters in IDC of the breast. Patients and Methods: In this retrospective study formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue samples from 60 patients admitted to Aswan University Hospital with IDC of the breast. Results: increased tumor size was associated with negative VDR expression. While, there was no significant relation between VDR expression and patients’ age. VDR expression decreased with increase lymph node metastasis. VDR expression showed no significant relation with either LVI or PNI . No significant relation between luminal subtypes and VDR expression.
