Physiological Studies on The Compatibility and Incompatibility of Blood Orange (Sanguinelli) on Some Citrus Rootstocks
In Egypt, blood orange cultivation is on the rise due to its excellent nutritional and health benefits. This investigation was carried out through the two seasons (2022 and 2023) to study the compatibility and incompatibility of Sanguinelli (blood orange) trees budded on different rootstocks namely sour orange, Volkamer lemon, Swingle citrumelo, Troyer citrange and Macrophylla lemon. Scion∕rootstock trunk circumference (%) was conducted .Stronger scion/rootstock compatibility refers to the values ratios closer to 100%. The results indicated that, there is a partial compatibility and incompatibility between the rootstocks and the scion. Whereas, the scion trunk circumference was larger than the rootstock trunk circumference in the all rootstocks under study, which achieved results exceeding 100% (from 123.76% with Swingle citrumelo to 130.08 % with Volkamer lemon), except for the Troyer citrange rootstock, in which the circumference of the rootstock trunk was larger than that of the scion trunk, resulting in less than 100% (68.39%). Also, the results revealed that, Volkamer lemon rootstock produced the maximum productivity, while, the highest tree volume, fruit diameter and weight were achieved by Macrophylla lemon . Moreover, Troyer citrange produced the maximum juice weight (%) and Vitamin C. While, Swingle citrumelo rootstock achieved the highest T.S.S/Acid ratio. It could be concluded that, Sanguinelli (blood orange) trees budded on Volkamer Lemon rootstock achieved the best results under the experiment conditions. Additionally, the results also confirmed the effectiveness of SCoT markers in assessing genetic diversity and differences among Sanguinelli trees grown on different rootstocks.
