OFDM receiver design with detection of jamming or interference in LDPC-coded transmission

Abstract In this paper we present the design of our modified OFDM receiver design, which introduces a simple OFDM jamming detection method, usable for detecting several jamming attacks, including repeat-back-jamming style designs, previously deemed undetectable. This method depends on the presence of a compatible ECC, such as an LDPC, as it uses its iterative soft-decoder statistics as the basis for jamming or interference detection. The method is evaluated using our free and open source MATLAB OFDM+LDPC toolkit. Furthermore, the feasibility of the repeat-back jamming method is evaluated by measurements in a real, over-the-air radio transmission scenario with a Software-Defined Radio transmitter, receiver, and jammer implementation using USRP frontends. Measurements of the jammer latency, detrimental to the success of this attack, are presented.
