Cultivating Prosperity: Saguna Baug’s Regenerative Agritourism Model for Sustainable Livelihoods
Summary Saguna Baug has been a pioneer in agritourism projects in India since 1985. This case study explores Saguna Baug’s model, underpinned by the Saguna Regenerative Technique (SRT) and the Saguna Vansanvardhan Technique (SVT) – two context-driven innovations that have redefined sustainable farming and landscape restoration in the region. By integrating these methods, Saguna Baug sets a precedent for transformative agritourism practices globally. The current case study asserts that the regenerative aspect would offer a conscious framework for thinking, practising and documenting the process of sustainable Agritourism. The study emphasises that Regenerative Agritourism looks at local resources through a holistic lens by influencing the way the resources are utilised. It encompasses the aspects of returning to the basics while implementing a new way of thinking towards the technology and the process, thereby acting upon it consciously and profitably. With its Regenerative Agritourism Model, the business has transformed rural economies through sustainable practices and served as the guardian of nature. The regenerative approach has replenished nature, restructured agricultural practices, empowered the local community and connected urban visitors with rural life while ensuring that the revenue generated stays within the loop of the local economy. Saguna Baug’s calling to stick to its indigenous knowledge, inclusive thoughts and transformative thinking by adopting the technology paved the way for a much-regarded agritourism initiative in India.
