Improving Exploratory Innovation through Dual Network Embeddedness and Dynamic Capabilities Based on Resource Orchestration Theory
As the technological revolution deepens, exploratory innovation is key for enterprises to achieve high-quality development. The digital era accelerates integration into organization and knowledge networks formed through cooperation and the coupling of knowledge elements. Through network embedding, enterprises access valuable resources like knowledge and information, fostering innovation. However, existing research overlooks how the resource combinations from dual network embedding interact with digital context-driven dynamic capabilities to facilitate exploratory innovation. Based on resource orchestration theory (ROT), this study explores how dual network embedding and dynamic capabilities interact to enhance exploratory innovation. We introduce a new, more precise method using natural language processing (NLP) to construct technical term cooccurrence networks and generate patent vectors for identifying exploratory innovation through similarity calculations. Empirical analysis is based on 22,021 collaborative patents from 680 construction firms between 2014 and 2023. The results show that dynamic capabilities interact with network structure embedding at various levels, promoting exploratory innovation.
