Planetary Health Research Digest
In the past, studies have proposed cost-neutral food tax reforms with either health-focused or climate-focused agendas. Unfortunately, strict climate-focused reforms have been shown to have negative health impacts, while strict health-focused reforms have been found to have only 40% of the climate benefits. Therefore, in their new study, Jörgen Larsson (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden) and colleagues aim to bridge this divide by evaluating cost-neutral food tax reforms that equally integrate both climate and health objectives and apply them to Sweden.
