Frequency Diversity Analysis for Extended Rytov Approximation

The recently proposed inverse scattering techniques, extended phaseless Rytov approximation for lossy media (xPRALM) and its modified version, that includes phase information, (xFRA-LM) have been shown to provide good imaging performance under strong scattering and low-loss conditions. Their extended validity range and linear formulations allow for radio frequency imaging in practical application scenarios such as indoor imaging. Both techniques uses spatial diversity in form of multiple Wi-Fi transceivers at 2.4 GHz frequency. Despite good performance, these techniques have certain limitations such as reconstructing intricate scatterer profiles. In this work, we investigate the impact of incorporating frequency diversity in xPRA-LM and xFRA-LM models to find possible improvement. We compare the imaging performance of our proposed frequency diverse versions of xPRA-LM and xFRA-LM with the original single frequency counterparts. The simulation results and mutual coherence metric indicate that frequency diversity provides limited improvement for both xPRA-LM and xFRA-LM, with greater benefits observed for xFRA-LM.
