Zeroth-Order Bessel Beams Generated by a 1 -Bit Phase Coding Metasurface
The advent of metasurfaces offers a new approach to selectively manipulate the electromagnetic response of waves through precise design of the constituent meta-atoms. In this paper, a minimalist 1 -bit phase coding metasurface with “ 0 ” and “ 1 ” states is proposed in the microwave regime. The elementary meta-atoms present a symmetric structure and are arrayed in a hexagonal lattice such that they are insensitive to the polarization of the incident wave with a quasi-unity reflection amplitude. By using the proposed minimalist metasurface, zeroth-order Bessel beams are generated at <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{1 2 ~ G H z}$</tex>. Such beams can find potential applications in near-field communication systems particularly for internet of things (IoT) and smart devices.
