A comparative study on power quality analysis in multicarrier based modified sine modified amplitude PWM switching techniques for single phase five level multilevel inverter

The Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC) technology is the choice of the day in the modern High-Power applications and large Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM), industrial drive applications owing to its modularity, fault tolerance and high efficiency. In particular, in the context of MMC, the Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) structure has grown to be the choice of STATcom applications. Multicarrier based PWM switching patterns are often used to drive Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverters. The primary contribution of the paper is to fully explore the impact of multicarrier based novel modified sine modified amplitude PWM schemes on the harmonic content of the Modular Multilevel Cascaded Inverter (MMCI). To do so, the MMCI circuit output voltage have been considered. In this paper some PWM modulations including fixed switching frequency with fixed amplitude and adjusted amplitude PWM, the synthesis of CFD ideas with mutable amplitude PWM have been analyzed by means of simulation and implementation of an experimental system with dSPACE/RTI and experimented on with MMCI circuit. Through the analysis of frequency spectrum and computation of different performance measures like THD, DF, HLF, a comparative study quantitatively of different proposed methods of PWM has been conducted. Based on the findings, FSF-MSMA plan improves the basic output voltage especially at reduced modulation index intervals whilst maintaining the bottom harmonic distortion of the yield voltage without having to adjust the device switching losses. The fundamental component of the methods used is higher in FSF-MSMA methods based on MSMAPOD PWM and MSMAAPOD PWM. The proposed methods of FSF-MSMA with MSMAPD PWM and FSF-CFD with MSMACO-1 PWM switching strategy have better preferences such as reduced voltage distortion (enhanced spectral quality) at a specific range.
