Bilateral Symmetric C1-C2 Level Dumbbell Ganglioneuroma in a Known Case of Neurofibromatosis Type-1: A Rare Case Report
Abstract Ganglioneuroma is a very rare benign neuroblastic tumor derived from the neural crest cells. It is rarely located in the cervical region compressing the spinal cord. Very few cases of bilateral symmetric dumbbell ganglioneuroma in the cervical region with neurofibromatosis type-1 (NF-1) have been reported previously. A 48-year-old male presented to us with a history of spastic quadriparesis with gait disturbance for the past 4 months with a known case of NF-1. We did an magnetic resonance imaging of the cervical spine with contrast suggestive of bilateral symmetric dumbbell mass at the C1–C2 level severely compressing the spinal cord. Surgical decompression of the spinal cord with complete excision of the tumor at the C1–C2 level was done. The patient’s motor power improved significantly histopathological analysis was ganglioneuroma.
