Early recurrence of atrial arrhythmia and health care utilization during the 8-week blanking period after thermal energy catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation
Catheter ablation (CA) is effective for rhythm control in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), but recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia (ATA) early after ablation is common. Yet, many patients with early recurrence do not experience late recurrence.1 The 2024 EHRA/HRS/APHRS/LAHRS expert consensus statement proposed an 8-week (shortened from 12-week) blanking period for clinical trials involving CA of AF, during which recurrences are not seen as a failure of treatment.2 However, the relationship between very early ATA recurrence following CA and clinical events is not well defined.
