275 Build trust with your audience - a practical workshop on inclusive and accessible science and health communication
Abstract WKS 14: Build Trust with Your Audience - A Practical Workshop on Inclusive and Accessible Science and Health Communication, B309 (FCSH), September 4, 2025, 13:30 - 14:30 Rationales and Purpose Inclusive and accessible communication is vital for building trust, engaging diverse communities, and promoting equity in public health. However, professionals often lack the tools to ensure their messages are truly inclusive. This workshop introduces key principles of inclusive and accessible communication for academics and practitioners working in culturally diverse and health-related contexts. Process of Workshop A general introduction is given at the beginning of the workshop, showcasing the best practices in topics like language use, visuals, and community involvement. It is based on insights from the EU-wide JACARDI project and the Finnish “Agency - services that promote equity, antidiscrimination and participation” -project, both focused on equity, anti-discrimination, and participation. Participants will then work in small groups to reflect on accessibility in their own work and co-create practical communication guidelines. These will be shared and discussed in a plenary session. Projected Learning Outcomes By the end of the workshop, participants will understand the importance of inclusive and accessible communication in public health, gain practical tools and strategies to improve their communication practices, and collaboratively develop take-away guidelines to support?more equitable and effective engagement with diverse audiences.
