Influence of the Coulomb field of foil nuclei on half-lives of cluster states in fission fragments

An attempt is made to explain the experimentally observed binary decay of some fission fragments of 252 Cf(sf) while traversing the degrader foil. Assuming these fragments are born in metastable shape-isomer/cluster states formed during the initial binary fission, an influence of the Coulomb field of the foil nuclei on decay barriers and half-lives of these states is investigated.

Abstract

An attempt is made to explain the experimentally observed binary decay of some fission fragments of 252 Cf(sf) while traversing the degrader foil. Assuming these fragments are born in metastable shape-isomer/cluster states formed during the initial binary fission, an influence of the Coulomb field of the foil nuclei on decay barriers and half-lives of these states is investigated.
