Foundations of Relational Theory in Structuring and Class Distribution of Data in Production-Economic Sector of the Penitentiary System

The study considers the application of fundamentals of relational theory and set theory as components of ontology-based database design for information systems considering the production-economy sector of the penitentiary system as an example. The paper examines various architectural approaches for statistical reporting data, covering indexing, structuring, and class distribution techniques; outlines hierarchical structures for each class; discusses from a relational theory perspective interactions between sets, opportunities for organizing data slices by production sectors and institutions where production processes occur; works out guidelines for working with data. Based on theoretical set analysis, the author develops key performance indicators (KPIs), which, when applied in practical operations of manufacturing subdivisions, enable enhanced monitoring of organized workflows; demonstrates, furthermore, practical examples of mutual distributions and OLAP analyses using previously developed software tools. The study aims to investigate the applicability of relational theory in solving challenges related to data structuring and class distribution of data on the example of the production-economy sector of the penitentiary system. The novelty of the work lies in the established correlations between sets and data handling rules built on their base; developed data classification; hierarchical class structure investigation; and formulated KPIs applicable in practical operations. Research methodologies include relational theory, set theory, and logic within the framework of ontology-based design of information system databases. The practical significance of the study involves applying the developed methods, approaches, and data-handling rules in constructing database architectures for the information systems of production-economy sector of the penitentiary system, as well as in their application in report-and-analysis practices of penal institutions. The theoretical significance encompasses the developed methodologies, rules, norms for working with penitentiary system’s reporting data, the created class-based data structuring; the explored opportunities for organizing data slices; and the introduction of KPIs for subsequent investigations.
