Development of an endometriosis self-care behaviors scale: a psychometric study

In this study, it was aimed to develop the Endometriosis Self-Care Behaviors Scale and test its validity and reliability. This methodological study was conducted with 400 women diagnosed with endometriosis. Data were collected using a “Participant Description Questionnaire” and the “Endometriosis Self-Care Behaviors Scale”. The construct validity of the scale was tested by exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability of the scale was measured using Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient, item-total score correlations, and test–retest analysis. The results of the exploratory factor analysis showed a construct consisting of 17 items collected under 4 factors. According to the results of the confirmatory factor analysis, the goodness-of-fit indices of the scale were adequate. The Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was 0.79, its item-total score correlation coefficients varied in the range of 0.17–0.54, and the intraclass correlation coefficient calculated between its test and retest implementations was 0.71. Endometriosis Self-Care Behaviors Scale is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to evaluate the self-care behaviors of women with endometriosis.
