Successful Heart Transplantation in a Patient with Sporadic Inclusion Body Myositis—A Case Report

Sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM) is a rare, slowly progressive inflammatory myopathy. There is sparse literature describing patients with sIBM and end-stage heart failure. In this case, we present a 58-year old male with a history of end-stage nonischemic cardiomyopathy and sIBM who presented with acute decompensated heart failure and ultimately underwent heart transplantation. To our knowledge, this is the first case report to highlight successful heart transplant in a patient with sIBM cardiomyopathy. Long-term follow-up can encourage continued transplants in this patient demographic.
