Recognizing Arthralgia as a Potential Adverse Effect of CFTR Modulators: A Case Report
Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators (CFTRm) have revolutionized the management of cystic fibrosis (CF) by enhancing ion transport in epithelial cells expressing specific CFTR gating mutations. The currently available CFTR modulators include correctors such as elexacaftor (ELX), lumacaftor (LUM), and tezacaftor (TEZ), which facilitate the maturation and intracellular transport of the protein to enhance its membrane expression, as well as potentiators like ivacaftor (IVA), which increase the frequency of CFTR channels opening to allow chloride ion passage.
