Trimetallic NiCoFe Medium-Entropy Metal–Organic Framework Nanosheets as an Efficient Electrocatalyst for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

It is important that the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalyst development process is focused on reducing costs and lowering overpotential so that it becomes more efficient for overall water splitting. Metal organic framework (MOF) materials are efficient electrocatalysts for the OER because they have a large area of the specific surface and abundant active sites, high porosity, and adjustable pore diameter. Depending on the entropy increase effect, a series of low- or medium-entropy MOFs were designed. According to the characterization results, the entropy increase effect can enhance the OER catalytic performance. Herein, a simple one-pot synthesis is used to form a trimetallic NiCoFe-MOF. As an electrocatalyst of OER, the trimetallic MOF has an overpotential of 269 mV, with a Tafel slope as low as 41.3 mV dec–1. Here, a simple strategy for designing efficient, noble-metal-free OER electrocatalysts in medium-entropy sight has been provided.
