Digital vs Analog Equalization in FEC Supported 50G-PON

We compare digital equalizer with soft-input FEC versus analog equalizer with hard-input FEC for 50G-PON. Only 0.4 dB penalty with analog implementation is obtained allowing low ONU costs while ensuring D/E2 classes compliance with 5 dB margin.

Abstract

We compare digital equalizer with soft-input FEC versus analog equalizer with hard-input FEC for 50G-PON. Only 0.4 dB penalty with analog implementation is obtained allowing low ONU costs while ensuring D/E2 classes compliance with 5 dB margin.
