UHF RFID Portal Discrimination

This study addresses the issue of discrimination in UHF RFID portals used in logistics. Applying RFID technology has become an efficient method for tracking the status of various objects in many industries. We experiment with a novel approach for discrimination in UHF RFID portals, where we leverage temporal autocorrelation information present in sequences of RFID tag reading. The performance of our method is less than 0.5 % errors, compared to around 2.5 % errors in the state-of-the-art. Our method is important as a means of providing, for instance, greater inventory control in logistics. Based on the acquisition of data obtained by repeatedly passing a forklift under a UHF portal, we obtain statistics on the reading of RFID tags placed on the forklift and those placed in the hangar by the various deployed antennas.
