Leveraging Nonlinearity for Joint RF Power Harvesting, Sensing and Communications
This work explores the feasibility of utilizing a diode's nonlinearity for joint RF power harvesting, sensing and communications. Baseband signals can be filtered and decoded for information communications. Third- and higher-order intermodulation products in the fundamental frequency band can be used for sensing purposes, avoiding linear-clutter interference. Power harvesting is realized by collecting its dc output. A theoretical model is proposed in this work to identify a suitable diode candidate for circuit design. Experimental verification further confirms that the SMS7630 diode is able to produce all desired frequency components with a - 25 dBm two-tone signal.
