UHF RFID Chip Parameter Optimization

This paper provides a theoretical method allowing one to optimize the parameters of an UHF RFID chip to maximize the performance of an RFID system. Thanks to the proposed method, directions and trends to optimize UHF RFID chip parameters such as the input impedance in the default state, the input impedance in the second state, the chip sensitivity or any other parameters affecting these values, can be easily identified. Instead of relying on physical or technological constraints linked to the internal chip architecture, this paper takes an opposite point of view and tries to optimize these values to maximize application metrics such as the forward and round-trip read ranges. Thus, the provided method is actually independent from the technological or physical processes used during the chip design. The results, if achievable, could be used by a chip designer to optimize the performance of any UHF RFID chip.
