Multi-angle absorption-scattering metagrating architecture for high-efficiency electromagnetic wave dissipation

Advanced electromagnetic manipulation devices are increasingly demanding multifunctional integration. However, conventional metasurfaces suffer from intrinsic limitations in concurrently achieving broadband absorption and multidirectional scattering regulation. This work proposes what wwe believe to be a novel absorption-scattering integrated multi-layer metagrating for controlling the scattering and absorption of electromagnetic waves. This metagrating is particularly effective in suppressing large-angle reflections and achieving beam averaging control under multiple incident conditions. Meanwhile, this research scheme can achieve electromagnetic wave absorption in multiple desired directions and evenly distribute the wavenumbers. In the research, a lossy high-conductivity carbon powder composite polyurethane film was adopted, which enhanced the localization effect of the electromagnetic field within the metagrating and thereby improved the absorption efficiency. The experimental results show that the designed metagrating achieves 96.8% electromagnetic wave absorption at the operating frequency. Meanwhile, when an incident in the five directions of 70°, 30°, 0°, -30°, and -70°, the wave absorption efficiency at any angle is greater than 98%, and the wavenumber is averaged and controlled to the other four channels. This method can effectively control the scattering direction and amplitude by utilizing the diffraction wavenumber of any grating, which paves the way for the innovative application of beam manipulation, stealth technology, and electromagnetic shielding technology.
