Risk of hospitalization and mortality across US climate regions following extreme heat exposure in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) receiving in-center hemodialysis: a space–time-stratified case-crossover analysis
We observed spatial heterogeneity across US climate regions. The strongest effects of heat exposure were observed in the Ohio Valley, South, and West regions for hospitalization and the Upper Midwest, Southeast, and Northwest regions for mortality. Findings may be used to inform targeted interventions to patients with ESKD residing in areas with higher risks of adverse health outcomes following heat exposure.
