Preparation of Fe-Ce@ MCM Adsorbent and Its Application for As(Ⅴ) Adsorption

In this study, Fe-Ce@ MCM adsorbent was prepared by using iron (Fe) and cerium (Ce) elements extracted from Bayan Obo tailings, along with MCM molecular sieve. The as-prepared product was applied to the adsorption of arsenic (As) from aqueous solutions. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy analyses revealed that Fe and Ce were mainly loaded on the surface of the support in the form of amorphous hydroxyl-containing oxides, and the surface hydroxyl groups played a crucial role in the adsorption process. Results from adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics experiments demonstrated that the Fe-Ce@ MCM material exhibited excellent arsenic adsorption capacity, with a theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of 22.03 mg/g.
