Bubbling phenomena in a tri‐trophic food chain model amidst odor disruption

Abstract The dynamical complexity of a tri‐trophic predator–prey interaction, specifically incorporating the influence of odor, is explored in this study. The ecological significance of the proposed model system, along with its distinctive techniques, is elucidated in contrast to existing approaches. Challenges arise in controlling chaos and stabilizing population dynamics within this context. The Hastings–Powell population model, when perturbed by odor, displays a chaotic attractor under specific parameters. The primary goal is to manage the chaotic dynamics of the system. Diverse tactics for chaos management are employed to regulate the system's periodic oscillations and other bifurcating features. Sensitivity analysis of input parameters identifies crucial factors for system conservation. The present outcomes indicate the potential for system conservation through odor disturbance to the predator. Odor disturbance induces bubbling events and stabilizing–destabilizing effects within the system. Furthermore, the system transitions from chaos to stability at a specific strength of the system parameter when the odor disturbance parameter is numerically varied within an acceptable range. Various codimension one and codimension two bifurcation structures are explored with appropriate system parameter choices, numerically validated within feasible parametric values. The entire phase plane is partitioned into regions through a bi‐parametric bifurcation diagram, depicting multiple bifurcation curves. The dynamic outcomes of the model system are significantly recorded within each region. Numerical simulations illustrate the relationship between the present findings, theoretical analysis, and the impact of the control approach. Lastly, the biological implications of these findings are comprehensively addressed in the conclusion.
