An Introduction to Breath Pattern Disorders and Clinical Considerations for Treatment
Undoubtedly, more systems yet to be discovered exist. It has been a point of human fascination since the beginning of time, and rightly so, as it is the only body system that can be controlled both autonomically and by volition (Zhang & Davenport, 2005).Our control of respiratory behaviors allows us to indirectly exert influence on solely autonomic systems, such as cardiovascular activity or brain connectivity (Brown & Gerbarg, 2005;Karavidas et al., 2007).Although breathing is both powerful and pervasive, its very ordinariness often causes it to be overlooked as a foundation of health and well-being.
