Coenzyme Q10 and its Therapeutic Effect on Tinnitus
Abstract Tinnitus refers to the perception of sound, usually ringing in one or both ears, in the absence of any external stimulus. It is a very common symptom among patients who attend the otolaryngology clinic. The treatment of tinnitus is yet to be developed due to its complex pathophysiology of origin. The underlying neural mechanisms of tinnitus are probably often complex to understand and have varied mechanisms. Although tinnitus is a serious health issue and financial concern, most people have limited access to treatment that can reduce or even completely eradicate their persistent tinnitus. The lack of appropriate medication for tinnitus is due to a limited understanding of the biological basis of tinnitus. The development of biochemical, molecular, and imaging methods in modern medicine has led to significant discoveries into the underlying causes of tinnitus and how to treat it. Treatment of tinnitus is often challenging in medicine. The antioxidant property of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) may lessen the severity of tinnitus in patients with subjective tinnitus by lowering oxidative stress and inner ear damage. The purpose of this review is to go over how CoQ10 affects tinnitus treatment.
